(Harrisburg) —  Capital Area Transit (Cumberland-Dauphin-Harrisburg Transit Authority) and Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania have agreed to organize a Capital Area Transit Paratransit Advisory Committee, according to CAT spokesperson Robert Philbin.

“CAT and the leadership at Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania have structured an advisory committee and will now reach out to seek volunteers to serve on this important community transit advisory committee,” Philbin said.

Pam Auer, director of CILCP’s Living Well with a Disability program, and Seth Ambrose, Living Well Specialist for CILCP, are organizing disability representation on the Paratransit Advisory Committee.   “We are planning the first committee kick-off meeting in December,” Auer said.  “We will be contacting volunteers this month.”

In addition to CAT paratransit staff, the committee will be composed of representatives from CILCP and affiliated organizations as well as individual riders from Cumberland and Dauphin counties and the City of Harrisburg.

The mission of the committee is to assure people with all types of disabilities in the CAT transit area have convenient access to fixed route and paratransit service as well as continual public input into paratransit service.

“We have a legal and ethical responsibility to make certain CAT provides adequate professional transit service to meet the needs of this important public transit bound community.”  Philbin said.

CAT Paratransit Advisory Committee public meetings will be held monthly, the first Tuesday of each month, beginning Tuesday, December 1, 2015.

CILCP provides innovative programs and services to allow persons with diverse disabilities to live well. CILCP advocates on many different public levels to ensure all people with any type of disability are provided with the opportunity to live well.

Capital Area Transit was incorporated in 1973 when Cumberland County and Dauphin County Commissioners and the City of Harrisburg organized CAT to provide mass transit Fixed-Route and Paratransit shared-ride services, which today conveniently and safely transport about 2.5 million riders a year in the thousand square mile capital region.  Visit www.cattransit.com, follow CAT on Facebook or Twitter at @CATTransit, or call CAT’s Public Information Office at 717-238-8304 for more information.  Where CAT Goes, Community Grows.”
